Mambwe District was initially a sub Boma of Chipata District until it was declared a District in the year 1997 and it has been striving to attain development and its economic status since then.The District has a total population of 99,981 (projected as at 2020) Out of which 50,145 are male and 49,836 are female. The District has a total number of six (6) chiefdoms, one constituency and 15 wards.The district has a dual economic structure of Agriculture and Tourism.The benefits of tourism seem not to have trickled down to the local people.
